FAQ

  1. Why should I donate? HERE is a brief page with information about donating and why it’s so important.
  2. What do I get for donating? You get to chose between a Pentester Lab subscription, a Hack The Box subscription or you can opt for the donation to the Red Cross.
  3. What country can I donate from? At the moment, this is only within Australia.
  4. Can I donate plasma 2 times a month and therefore consistently have both subscriptions free? You definitely could, however, depending on my funds, I may need to limit you to only one even with 2 donations a month.
  5. I’ve submitted to the form and haven’t heard back from you, what can I do? It’s possible I’ve not checked it yet, please give me a few days to respond, if you haven’t heard in 3 days shoot me a DM on twitter and I’ll make sure to get back to you.
  6. Why are you collecting information like age and gender? These fields are completely optional, it just allows me to hopefully build some cool graphs to visually see what groups of people are donating. If you don’t feel comfortable filling out these forms, that’s completely fine.
  7. Why are you doing this? This community has given me a lot, I want to give back.
  8. I have X condition, can I donate? I’m not an employee of Lifeblood, however you can check your eligibility easily using this QUIZ
  9. I’ve donated, but I don’t really want a subscription, but still want to help the cause, what can I do? I’ve added an option to just make a donation to the Red Cross, or alternatively, grab the subscription and give it away, I’m sure someone will greatly appreciate it on twitter or your preferred platform.

What is this?

Hacker Blood Drive was created to incentivise security professionals or people who are wanting to get into the information security field to donate blood. In Australia a blood donation is needed every 24 seconds. The incentive being a one-month subscription to either Pentester Labs or Hack The Box. Both of these resources are amazing and provide a huge amount of potential knowledge within their programs. We believe they are both valueable resources for all security professionals no matter your experience.

How do I get my free stuff?

All you need to do is book in to your local Australian Red Cross Lifeblood centre and donate either whole blood, plasma or platelets. Once you’ve donated, go ahead and snap a picture the Lifeblood sign in the centre with a piece of paper with your twitter handle or email address (or some other kind of proof, could be a picture of your bandage, you in the chair, what ever works), upload it to imgur, and fill out our google form.

What do we get out of it?

Nothing. I’m doing this as a way to give back to the community in a way that also benefits others. The Australian hacker community has given me so much, and now I’m in a position to give back.

Who am I?

Hey there! My name is Josh, but in the Information Security space I’m better known as “0ldMate”. I’ve been passionate about computer security for several years. A huge benefit in my journey was being able to interact with and ask people questions within the community itself. I’m now fortunate enough to be in a position to give back.

I’m planning on self-funding this venture to seek out blood, plasma, and platelet donations from the general public. Depending on how that goes, who knows? Maybe we’ll expand into something new in the future! If you have any questions reach out to me at my email blooddrive@0ldmate.com or on twitter at @0ldMate_

Thanks for your time,

Josh
